@Denny16, no carrier ops. US Army 71-74, temp duty in helo battalion in Korea. Degree in ATC but caught up in PATCO strike in '81. Started my air boss business about 12 yrs ago. I run air shows around the US...Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, all the military and civilian performers, etc. Major shows like Sun n Fun, FL.Seattle Seafair, Reno Air Races, to really fun smaller shows.

It's an honor to work with these incredible professionals. The challenge to match that level is something I thrive on.

Heavy sigh, 12 of my 15 shows for 2020 have cancelled. Three remaining are on life -support. Going through withdrawals? Yessir!

No word on SF Fleet Week yet. Will be bummed if they have to pull the plug but I won't be surprised.

@Marceline...if they hold true to form of most all shows this year, they'll get to a drop dead date sometime around 8 weeks prior, so basically early to mid August. My Seattle show is very similar to Fleet Week, (overwater, Blue Angels, multiple sites, four day event) cancelled last week...it was scheduled for 29Jul-03Aug.

It's a bummer for sure. I need my weekly dose of jet fuel!

I figured it was Navy or Army aviation or ATC. My dad was on the originl team that developed the air traffic control system when jet airliners were introduced in the 1950s. FAA would not let them fly until ATC for mixed aircraft was sorted.
he went on to help develop data link navigation and air traffic control systems, as the Navy Data Link program team leader for Univac. So your handle makes since.

I also was on the SF Fleet Week committee for several years during the SF Naval base shutdowns, in the 90s, as the Blue Angel VIP coordinator and coordinating media coverage of the event. Organizing and working an air show is not an easy task, with many details to sort out.

But we are straying from the main topic, congratulations Trimtab on your new Tab, hope you have some fun with it.

@Denny16 ..I was Navy/FAA ATC. Did your dad work on the Tactical Data Systems (NTDS) and stuff like that? I spent several years pounding on Univac keyboards in the 70's, and the data systems were the coolest things ever!

Yes, yes he did, but that is classified

. He was the Univac senior design programming engineer for the Navy contract DataLink projects. He had to go aboard the USS Longbeach when the Navy installed the Nav/Tactical system on the ship, he got seasick on that job. He laid the groundwork for the fly by wire systems, among others.

He also was involved in several Navy projects, including the development of the 3M maintenance system. He wrote the manual while I was in HS, and I got to proof read it, great fun

. When I was in the Naval Reserve 10 years later and had to go to a 3M training school, the instructor looked at my name (I was a Jr,), he asked why I was there, as he thought I had written the book (I do not use my real name on the internet). My reply was, it was my father, I am not that old!

By the time I got to carriers in the mid-70's, NTDS was pretty mature, and Carrier Air Traffic control had its own tiny module inside of it. It was great fun. There are many histories on the web about the development of radar and fighter direction control, and NTDS is a huge part of them.

Yes, I remember seeing my first NTDS display at NEL, when I was still in High School and would visit my dad at work, which as at San Diego Naval Electronics Lab. Let’s not forget the jet fighter heads ups displays.
