Positioning a disconnected camper in soft soil or sand

We were at a campsite this weekend. It had a soft dirt base . I backed in, put a board under the wheel and by using 3 boards total and moving them as a running bridge, we’re able to swing the camper 90 degrees to face out. The first time we’d been there, the wheel sank into the dirt. Thus I knew how to solve this. I’m wondering if there is a more elegant method someone has come up with for this problem.

Might not be elegant, but search for 747 mod …

I use boards all the time. Usually carry three 2x8x16 for leveling and to keep above soft ground. Later this week I'll I'll probably take a couple extra also as it raining cats and dogs there today and the field may be pretty soft still so I may need them under both sides and the jack.

This is one of the "747 mods". The "pneumatic" tires would be a big advantage, it would seem. Here is Mr. Helman's take on a DIY method.

Thanks everyone for the response. I used to be here a lot, but have been "distracted" a bit for a while. I've done a lot of mods from here, especially many of Dale's... I looked up the discussions and saw all the different ways to do this, especially Dale's ... Some people had trouble with tire pressure or other problems with pneumatic tire. I might be wrong, but it looks like he reverted to some large orange plastic mats to use.. decisions to be made....Terry & Jody... 2025 Honda Ridgeline RTL

We carry large plastic pads for this purpose. Used to carry cuts of plywood. We have never needed them - knock wood.Sharon / 2017 T@B CSS / 2015 Toyota Sienna Minivan / Westlake, Ohio0

This just shows I’m getting older. There was a discussion on this a few years ago and I even contributed. I didn’t see the plastic pad idea though. I’ll have to look for some larger ones…Terry & Jody... 2025 Honda Ridgeline RTL

What about some traction mats?

That is a good idea Marceline, traction mats would be a very good solution. The thicker off road recovery boards cloud also be used to help level on soft ground areas.

thanks all for the suggestions. We went with camco pads. We won’t use them often $17 was okay for me. We will see if they crack when moving the jockey wheel over them. They are 14x12, so perhaps two more if I need to traverse the camper to a new position.
