what size shelving did you go with? Are you going to paint it silver to match the interior?

12"x72" cut 2" to fit. It came in gray so there was no need paint to go with our silver gray interior. I used Command strips for mounting for easy removal.

So you're using the hardware that comes with the shelf unit and instead of screwing into the wall you use the command strips to adhere to the wall?

Before I completely and irrevocably installed the cabinets I tested the height to see if I would be constantly hitting my head (which I am inclined to do). Clearance was ok so I went ahead.
Dsatatwork: the cabinet depth is 13." We plan to use them mainly for clothes.

dsatwork: the openings are 6.5" high.

The wire shelf is an interesting idea, when I liberate my T@B from winter storage I'll look to see if it's doable. Might not work with DH who's 6'5".

I assume that you you fastened the ends to the wooden valances with something stronger than command strips?

everything was so much easier in the LG 5W with the 3/4" plywood walls...you guy have become ingenious with your Tab Mod Hacking Skills.

I'm trying a couple of things for the ends. If the Command products will not hold and I continue to like this mod I can go to a more permanent  solution.

One tip - don't leave any significant weight on the shelf when it is really hot. I have a wallpaper bubble caused by leaving something heavy on a command hook last summer.

We had that happen on a previous RV. By using a hair blow dryer I was able to shrink it back into place leaving no damage.

I decided to put some baskets on the wire shelf. That way I can store small items and they will not fall through. So far the total investment is about $20.

Nice job, Dale! I have actually considered doing a similar mod with a HF ATV rack. These little things get repurposed all of the time! What size action packers are you putting there?

I found those bins at Walmart about $19. They are not quite as heavy as Rubbermaid Action Packers. They have held up well. What I like about them is the lids are attached and hinged.

Ok Dalehelman, looks like I need to make another trip to check some of this stuff out personally! I like the shelf idea a lot. I would look at that area when inside & think "what a waste of space, what if' & now whoa la, two great ideas!

IIRC that is the shelving sold for garage/utility shelving. At home stores I've seen it in an area separate from the white closet stuff. The gray looks nice.

Dalehelman, It's starting to look like Santa's T@B workshop at your place! If 'ya get bored,[and I get my T@B dug out of the snow] I can trade you a totally unmolested one for yours! =) Just kidding. Nice mods. Just a thought though [I have coffee, no lawn chair!] , could you fashion some type of hooks on either end from the remnants of cutting off the shelf to incorporate to the existing side shelves for support of the long back shelf rather than the use of command strips?

Eric.  Believe it or not the ends of the side shelves are not the same.

I was suprised to find the ends were different sizes. Never noticed until I started to build my cabinets.

I thought the valences/shelves are different because the AC unit needed to take up more space on that side...
