@Verna I was going to say that you could just pull up a chair to this discussion and the Alde could wait, but you got it figured out. (...wanders off in a serpentine manner humming "Tiny Bubbles, In My Wine...)

It’s a normal fall weekend camping here. I’m where it is nicknamed “The Little Smokies” due to all of the various hardwood trees and the beautiful color, the rolling hills. Gorgeous.
But, I left the campground at 10 am yesterday with few campers here.....got back at 11:30 pm last night, and there were no available campsites, although the last reserved ones were occupied in the early morning hours today. It’s full, but with nice campers. Only two 400 tours today, but lots of conversations about full-timing and the 400. I’ll get the new satellite dish set up tomorrow....I hope. It’s basketball season in Hoosier land now!
I guess I’ll have to winterize Thursday before I leave here Saturday. One weather app says a low of 19*, another a low of 23* Friday night. I need to leave Hoosier land Sunday if I can get Sunny’s Grooming appointment moved up to this week. Fingers crossed!

@Ratkity, You're welcome. My screen needs cleaning, but it's just dust. Learned my lesson after about the third spray down ....."Put the beverage down & swallow before attempting to read a new thread on the forum" says my mind now. Should just put a sticky note up, huh?

Ok I have to confess I do roast my own coffee beans. I have a small batch electric roaster. The first time I took it camping it set the smoke detector off in the T@B. My wife doesn't share my love of coffee and wasn't a happy camper. I took it to uCamp this year and was so excited only to realize that when I got the roaster out I had forgotten to bring the grinder. I was telling Mandy Lea's Kendrick about my dilemma. He said he had a hand grinder. I roasted the coffee, he ground it, and we split the batch.
@greggill Where do you get raw beans to roast? I'm assuming you can't roast the beans on a spit over a campfire but can they be roasted in a cast iron skillet?

I order alternatively from Sweet Maria's and The Captain's Coffee. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other distributors who have popped up as well. These sites also have a lot of tips on methods of home roasting. If you appreciate a wide variety of flavorful and even unusual coffees, it's the only way to go!
While I do roast religiously at home, I admit I've never done it in camp. There's enough other distractions on vacation, so I settle for off-the-shelf ground coffee prepared in my trusty stainless steel percolator. :-)
I looked up roasters yesterday when this came up, and here is a stovetop model that might work over a campfire. The reviews say the handle is a little short, so be careful not to burn the beans if you are working over a fire:

There are some truly serious coffee folks on that home-barista.com site. People with $50k espresso setups, cause each day of the week of course needs a different machine. Folks who create their own custom PID controllers to have the perfect pressure and temperature profiling on their E61 double boilers since the 24k gold Slayer PID three head programming wasn't good enough. I'm not saying it can become an obsession, but...

I love most of those sites. Coffeegeek isn't as intense as Homebarista, but when I started out with my Silvia they were quite useful. Ask me about my PID!
I was in Oklahoma City in 2006 with my new machine and the only place I found that was selling fresh roasted beans was a local coffee distributor who supplied beans and coffee products across all of Oklahoma. I didn't realize this was a huge business, and called up and ordered a pound of French Roast. When I went to pick it up it was in a huge warehouse filled with beans and a gigantic roaster. The serious coffee scene was just starting up in OKC, and they were willing to make these small batches for individuals. They were nice enough to show me around their warehouse and the tons of raw beans from all over the world, while I carried my little one pound bag!
Edit: Called Prima Coffee. Still there, and now they have a coffee bar inside!
@DougH, A double WOW! I'll stick to me old fashioned percolator, and my Keurig at home. Seems like a lot of trouble for somethin' I'm gonna dump ample amounts of Irish Cream in to.....

OMG! @pthomas745!! You too? *faint-thump* I wouldn't have guessed.
Okok, confession. I would special order New Mexican Piñon coffee because it was so much better than the hand-picked Kona my Hawaiian friend would send me. The beans are roasted with piñon nuts. It takes some of the acidity without taking out body and strength.
Then I started having tummy troubles and swapped out to weak black tea and no coffee for over 2 yrs. Alas... I couldn't stay away. I'm not back to my Capresso machine with the grinder and specialty roasted coffee.
Except.. I ordered a special edition Bialetti coffee maker with Nicolette Coffee (small company, roasting born-on date).
@pthomas745, it's cool you were able to tour the factory!

Geeeesh! Almost as bad as "Jeep-Speak". I had no idea there was a whole 'nuther coffee language. Apparently, I've been a wee (hate autocorrect) babe when it comes to knowing coffee!

@ericnliz : Totally agree!!! Baileys or Kahlua in any kind of coffee makes it perfect.
P.S. No roaster yet, and no Slayer machine yet, but we try to budget enuf to buy beans from small batch experts like Temple Coffee (usually via gocoffeego.com).

@DougH, Have hammer, will travel! Arm strength, schmarm strength, Ha! One good smack with my little 4lb sledge, those puppies will ground to perfection! One quick question from a novice though...why don't you pre-grind the beans & put 'em in an air-tight container????? Or would that be a major barista no-no?

I think I just heard a -gasp- as living baristas turned over their beans (on the stove on the stove!) Bahahahahahaa. And all the dead ones are now T@B Zombies and will approach all at will, asking where the "coffee bar" gets placed in "that thing".
