GATabber said:This was only the 2nd adventure in our T@B! Enjoyed a great weekend at Vogel State Park in Blairsville GA! With a few new additions to our set up! (Exterior: canopy (with LED lighting), flag, lights, camp table; Interior: curtains, new bedding, over the door organizer, stool cushion to keep light out of porthole)

Looks great. Can you tell me which pop-up canopy you went with? I like the height and the top vent. -
@Brad42 I’ve got a 13x13 popup with 10x10 leg span. It takes two to walk it over your Tab, and I secured it with ball bungees to keep it from trying to fly off, damaging the Tab. It helps cool off the inside a bit when there’s no shade in high heat. Picked it up at Walmart.

Peaks of Otter Nat'l Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway in SW Virginia, near Bedford..

The campsites here are mostly tiered, with parking & picnic tables at two different levels, as the entire campground is built on the side of a mountain. So you either walk up or down to the table & firepit. Surprisingly, this was the first time that we've been perfectly level on the first try after a small adjustment of the jack, as verified electronically via phone app & sensor mounted in trailer. And it was a lumpy uneven driveway on the side of a mountain - go figure! Just stick the chocks in & we were done!
It's kinda nice not having to hook up the hose & electric, for a change, and that senior pass is nice for getting the $10 per night rate.
Filling fresh water tank was a challenge though on a downward slope - it started overflowing before 40%, presumably due to blockage of the air tube, so I had to move the trailer sideways to get more water in & still only got it to 50%. Will need to use a spare tank to get more. Temps around 50 at night, but it felt much colder in the afternoon with big winds. Getting warmer tomorrow in low 70's.

Overnight stay at KOA Sweetwater, TN off of I-75
Pullthrough full hookup. Great spot. Love the level pullthrough. Didn't have to disconnect. Also needed to dewinterize, so upgraded to full hookup to run lots of water through the pump and sink.

Adding to our "Peaks of Otter" campground experience pictured above (or "POO" as our new T@B sticker says), here are some more shots close to the campground..

Campsites are among the trees at right, on left slope of the "Sharp Top" peak just 200 yds behind Abbott Lake. There is a restaurant in the lodge on the lake if the cook needs a break.
Within a few miles is the gorgeous Fallingwater Cascades Trail, a fairly easy hike & well worth it. Those are flowering rhododendrons hanging over the top of the falls.
Closer view.
One of the smaller of the series of cascades.
Here's my slowmo video of one..

Some other hikers alerted us to this copperhead just a few feet off the trail, the most common venomous snake here in VA & NC.
One of many spectacular views from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We're having the most gorgeous camping weather in one of the prettiest areas around. If you don't mind no hookups, POO is highly recommended!

A few days in early May in the Lone Pine area. A couple of nights at Tuttle Creek Campground dry camping, and two days boondocking in the wonderful Alabama Hills. There are many good places to snuggle in next to the rocks in the Hills. Exploration on foot or bike would be a good idea, just because a good turn around point may not be available as you drive the roads toward the rocks. Many are easy to see, and along Movie Road (the main "drag") there are plenty of turn offs big enough to park the trailer. I drove back about 6 miles along the road, and good spots were a little harder to find, but the views were spectacular.

We got our Peaks Of Otter (POO) sticker added to our T@B..

So, in the last year & a half, this was our 2nd Nat'l park we've been to on the Blue Ridge Parkway, including Julian Price near Boone, NC, and we've stayed at one third of Virginia's 27 state park campgrounds. Still have 18 to go.-Brian in Chester, Virginia

Went to my "Shakedown Event" this past weekend. Photos were too high res to post here (trying to follow the rules)Rolled in to the site around 8:30 pm on Thursday and it took about 30 min or less from stopping to leveling, stabilizing and plugging in power etc. Friday I needed to test out my "Side tent"
I do a medieval reenactment event in the summer and I'm supposed to hide/obscure the camper.. I'll be in a heavily wooded area and only need to hide it from the door side so folks don't see modern camper from the road... so this was a test of that
I had this 3 walled "cook shack" that is just the right width to completely block the side view.. so I just basically am going to use this a a side tent.As you can see, from the door side angle, the tent pretty much totally obscures the camper .. that's all I need to keep folks happy.. I can move the tent in or out a bit depending on how much width I have on my spot (Tent measures 12'wide by 8' deep and has 6' wall posts.. just had to lift the ends up a tiny bit to get them over Binky
So, here's the view from inside.. it covers well.. I'm not worried about bugs so I dont need a tight fit.. mostly just want a small shaded area I can use as a "living room" to sit when it's raining and also as a bigger changing room... I'll put down some ground tarp and will likely put a bit of a fly over the back of Binky to make it so I can set up a small wardrobe and a small table and other storage.Hoever, the HUGE test for me was.. can I work remotely?? I extended my table a bit with keyboard/mouse tray c-clamped to the table and I got the JetPack and WeBoost all set up and my external monitor
VERDICT: I can totally comfortably do my job on the road so long as I have a good 4G connection... and preferably power so I can run the AC in the dead of summer... but IT'S GOOD!!!
I had a fun time at the event itself but this was the "shakedown stuff" I needed.. I was parked right near a bathroom/shower house so I opted to not really use the water / toilet on board.
I had thought I had erred when I bough an extra pack of leveling blocks.. NOPE needed every last one..

👋 @DigitalSorceress, you're fairly close to one of our favorite places at Shenandoah River State Park campground. We're about 3 hours farther south from there. My sister-in-law lives in Woodstock, just south of your location.-Brian in Chester, Virginia
