Another weekend getaway, this time to Crawfordsville, IN at Sugar Creek Campground. They have over 40 acres, with quite a bit of frontage along Sugar Creek. Being a paddler and fisherman, I had quite a lot to do. Sugar creek is known for beautiful scenery, high bluffs and wildlife. I saw Bald Eagles (2), Turkey Vultures, and Red Tailed hawks while fishing from my canoe. The fishing was good, and using lures only I caught plenty of smallmouth, and some bonus freshwater drum, channel catfish, and even a Big Mouth Buffalo fish. The campground rents kayaks, canoes, and float tubes, and has a variety of trip lengths to choose from. You can have them transport you upstream, and paddle back to camp.
We had a creek side full hook up site, and man they were close together! Good thing our neighbors were a fun group! They have full hook ups, water and electric, and primitive sites, and have a camp store, bath house, cabins, basketball courts, two ponds, open fields, and a playground. I'm sure we will pay them another visit.

Richardson’s Grove State Park just south of Garberville in the CA Redwoods. Beautiful!

@2Cougs (Assuming you have been there in last few days.) Is much smoke making it up to Garberville? We have reservations at Yosemite next week, but are going to cancel because of the hazardous air quality. Looking for alternatives. Have never been to Richardson's Grove SP. See on reservecalifornia site there are sites available in several campgrounds. Any recommendations, i.e. Madrone, Oak Flat, etc?

@rajamar- Very little smoke one day (and I have asthma so am a good judge) but clear when we left this AM. Drove thru lots of smoke passing Ukiah. Richardson’s Grove looked like it had lots of great empty sites. We even snagged a pull thru one! We like where we were in Huckleberry... Oak Flat is sunnier and closer to the water (We floated in the Eel... about 3-5 feet deep). Good luck... let us know what you do.

@jgram2- they are pavers. DH recouping from hip replacement so we have the ADA site.

Almost makes replacing a hip worth it. Soooo, not really. But the pavers are a nice touch for ADA spots.

@Floyd67 I have never been to Charlestown State Park. If you have time, could you post a review on my Indiana Parks and Campgrounds thread? The quick research I did sounds interesting, and it is one of 2 Indiana State Parks that have full hook ups available. I wonder what the other one is?

Prophetstown State Park near Lafayette has full hookups in about half of the Campground.

Actually a week ago I was enjoying a very different view...

I prefer the calm of camping, but it was good being with family for a long weekend! Now back to camping!

We had some storms and constant wind which helped during quiet hours but during the day for naps etc, we ran the generator as there are no hookups.

I think it was mid mid to high eighties but there is no shade and our awning had not arrived yet so we just had the Clam.

By by the way, the Clam survived a pretty severe storm that took out a third of the tent campers. It only popped the roof in and I merely had to pop it back out. My last shelter was destroyed in my the same spot earlier in the year.
