Alde Display Temp Adjustment Grayed Out — Replaced blown fuse
[Deleted User]
Hi, does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions as to why the temperature adjustment buttons are grayed out? I'm plugged into my house current right now, but its not showing the little electric outlet icon either. I checked the circuit breaker, and I pulled the fuse on top of the Alde, but it didn't appear to be blown. (UPDATE: I just found a video "Travels with Delaney" and I see the fuse I pulled is not the one of the two fuses he checks in the video. I will go out and check those two fuses later) Circuit breaker was good.
The heat worked before on my house power when I was charging the batteries during winter....I forgot I had left the Alde on the last time I was out camping, so when I went back out about 5 hours later to unplug, it was toasty inside the camper. Unfortunately the hot water was also on, but I posted about that back when it happened and I was told it wouldn't have done any harm.
So the Alde is not seeing that I'm plugged into A/C power. Hopefully its something silly I'm forgetting to do.
Thanks

Is your Alde AC plug secure? It's possible that the display runs off the battery, but if your Alde plug worked loose the display would indicate no power.Richie, Mickie and Satchmo

Good idea. I will definitely check that.

It was a blown fuse!!!! Thanks to "Travels with Delaney"

@TabbyShack, congrats, and good to hear you figured it out! Doesn't it feel good when you actually solve your own problem!2017 t@b sofitel(Dr@gonsFly)TV 2015 Silverado 2500hd(Behemoth). Wyandotte, Michigan.

Oh my gosh YES!!! what a relief! I need to get some spares but having trouble finding the timed blow type. I do have to give credit to the you tibe video though. I had checked the one fuse I saw but didnt see the other one that was the culprit.

@TabbyShack, in case you have not seen this on the forum, be careful to always turn off the Alde before unplugging from shorepower. If you don’t, the next time you plug in, your Alde fuse may blow.Sharon / 2017 T@B CSS / 2015 Toyota Sienna Minivan / Westlake, Ohio

Thanks pthomas745.....my fuse is a "timed blow" does that matter?
-
Thanks Sharon....seems like a no brainer after the fact right! I will be extra careful next time.

@TabbyShack I'm not sure what you mean by "timed blow". I know there are fast and slow blow fuses, and the general recommendation is to use Fast blow fuses in the Alde. If you haven't seen it, here is the link to Fuses for Newbies:There is some discussion about the Alde fuses. Mine seem to blow more often, even when carefully turning off the Alde, so I just in the last month changed to a slow blow fuse. I have not yet had the chance to get much experience with the change.

Good morning pThomas745, the blown fuse I took out had the following info on it: T 3.15A L250 LAC. I found a video online that explained fuses are either "fast blow" and have an "F" printed on it, or it is a "timed blow" and it has a "T" printed on it. From what I understand, the timed blow fuses are best for the Alde, so I was trying to find that type rather than the "fast blow" ones. I will definitely check out the link you sent. Thanks!!
-
I wanted to add too that I have the 400, so maybe the 400 uses the timed blow fuse? Also my Alde only had one of those green plastic holders.
-
I'm not sure we ever got a definitive answer on the fast vs. timed blow question. I actually got both with my T@B, as discussed in this thread from 2017.

I did buy a set of the "timed blow" fuses. These are what I meant when I said "slow blow."There are several threads on the "slow blow" fuses for the Alde, so you might want to search for that term here. In general, it seems most owners have no issue with the "F" fuses.

Oh great, those are the fuses like I currently have in my Alde. I will read what others are saying about the F fuses. Thanks for the Amazon link. I tend to want to stick with what was originally installed, but I will study the fast blow type.

Scott linked to the thread I was thinking about......

yes, that is a great post, but its for the 320. I have a 400. I think I will start working on a similar post for the 400 now that I have time to work on such a task due to the virus.
-
True, but I don't think the electronic workings of the Alde are any different from the 320 to the 400. There was a transition from the Alde 3010 to the Alde 3020 a year or so ago that IIRC involved some minor changes (including going from two fuses to one at the control board) but I don't know to what extent that affects the fuse specifications.TabbyShack said:yes, that is a great post, but its for the 320. The only change is adding the Alde Flow to the TaB 400 after they went to the 3020 Alde model.

The good news is the "Unofficial" 400 owners manual posted in this forum has been updated with all the fuse info. It wasnt there when I printed it out initially, but it has an awesome fuse section now. It doesnt list the Flow. Update....I realize I was looking at the Official T@B 400 manual and not the unofficial one.
