First setup at Dauphin Island campground, off the coast of Alabama. Some friend said the visor looked like an Amish woman's hat, not the look I was shooting for! ;-)
Cincy you went right by my home when you crossed the rattle snake bridge on Range-line rd. If you looked to your left you would have seen the T@B NEAR THE WATER IN ITS HOME! If you come back lets get together. Art
Wind Whistle BLM Campground, between Moab and Monticello, Utah. Beautiful, quiet, dark sky, high desert with red, slick rock cliffs and small junipers. Camp hosts from Portland, Oregon. Only a vault toilet.
Frisch Fortress Campground, Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, north of Amarillo, TX. , Free with a wonderful view of a large lake....but I will never come here again in 30 mph winds with 55+ mph gusts, per the Ranger I just talked to!
I’m on a bluff above Lake Meredith and it has been a very rough night. I parked facing the SSW winds last night, I kept the T@B hitched to the truck, snugged my stabilizers tight, and the wind changed directions last night! It’s out of the north now and I feel like a cherry in a bowl of jello just rocking and rolling, whether in the truck or T@B. In good weather, this would be a great dry camping site.
I’ll be leaving as soon as the winds feel a bit safer for a campground in Amarillo. It’s not worth free to worry about those high gusts of wind.
Edit: now safe in a campground, shielded from the North winds by the office/laundry building.

@Ratkity, I’m seeing a lot of “Big Boys” pull into this RV Park since noon. That is normally quite early to find a place for the night. I would imagine the wind is bothering them, too.

Verna, we suffered the same winds last night up until midnight. Parked the van to help the TaB only to have the gusts come from another direction. Calm today. Eating a lot of sand!
The first time I slept in my old rooftop tent on top of my old Wrangler, it was in a windstorm on the beach of Lake Erie. I didn't sleep a wink all night. I have not been in wind in my T@b that kept me awake. So gentle rocking, but it was like being rocked to sleep.

I'm quite sure there are a few of you here on the Forum that have driven the Columbia Gorge route in windy conditions before....certainly not for the faint of heart! I've seen semis pulling doubles change lanes, and/or get the whipping effect and not move the steering wheel at all on a straight stretch. best advise: SLOW DOWN! Better to get there late & in one piece than rush & put yourself and, or others at risk. I've been known for finding the nearest rest stop, or pull-out just to take a breather & re-group during such conditions.

@ericnliz, with this being my fourth trip to the Southwest for winter, I have never encountered so much varied weather. I’m stuck through today due to the near 60 mph gusts of wind. Thank goodness I didn’t stay at the State Park I started to stay at as it is too close to a humongous grass fire. I just can’t see driving a few hundred miles fighting the steering wheel. It will calm down overnight.
But, everywhere I check for the weekend has a forecast for 1”-3” of snow! I may get home by next week! I think I left AZ a week too early!
And to keep this topic on course......
My home away from home in AZ. The screen room was my garage for my bicycle, and for a bit a woodworking I did this winter. Water and RV dump, restrooms and pay showers available, no electric available. But you can charge Dremel batteries, drill batteries, laptops and bike batteries in the Activity room in the office building.
Schoolhouse Point Campground, Lake Roosevelt, AZ. Senior rate of $6/night. Water , restrooms and showers, with an RV dump down the road. No electric available.
Guess where I finally went?
And you always meet someone you know! Judy and John Crankshaw were at T@Bazona and at Fool Hollow Campground at Show Low, AZ and they pulled into Valley of Fires National Tecreation Area in NM.
The sunsets in AZ are always so colorful, due to all the sand and dust particles in the air, so say some.
And back to “it’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford turnin’ ‘round to take at a look at me!” Yup was “Taking it Easy” with Sunny Day in my arms.
I thought all the helicopter noise I was hearing this morning was helicopters fighting the grass fires, and was I surprised to see my first Harrier in flight!
Another out of order, but this the perfectly level campsite at Fool Hollow State Park in Show Low, AZ. I left it hitched and just put the stabilizers down.

@dsatwork, This year is not as cold and windy as last year. But, I’ve not experienced this severe wind and potential snowy conditions trying to get home. I’m just sort of following the weather to get to where I won’t freeze up or blow away overnight! I’m not in a hurry, thank goodness.

@Verna, As always, thanks for sharing your adventures! If you're not in a hurry, & you've got Sunny Day with you & your "home on wheels" (T@B), take your time & enjoy! Be safe out there & stay in touch.

@Verna great pics! I've got the same outdoor mat. I wish it were more in the red tone and less rust, but I like the swirls. I'm glad that you have the gift of time as you travel. I passed through Winslow as a youngster when we camped all over the Southwest, long before the statue, when it was pretty small. It is such beautiful country! Thanks for sharing!

Boondocking near Scipio UT. Not much to look at, but again it's FREE. On a little round top, fire wood all over on the ground. Got to see 2 buffalo near by. No idea where they came from, but a nice surprise.
Last nights campfire in @2Cougs front yard with my propane fire pit and Ladybug. We went our respective ways before the coyotes came howling, and something we’d never heard after that.
