@B11 The shunt and solar controller are usually installed before the battery cutoff switch, so using that wouldn’t help with any drain. That said, I don’t have onboard solar, do have a SmartShunt, and I have a smaller AGM battery capacity than your 400. It’s a total non issue. Battery drain from the SmartShunt with the battery switch turned to off is negligible. I installed the shunt in the middle of winter. Zero change in battery charge between January and April. None. It’ll overwinter just fine.
for a year or so, but if you plan to do a lot of boondocking it would probably be better to just bite the bullet and get a Victron SmartShunt (https://amzn.to/3KDbROV).
I use the black tank flush in the same manner as Denny16. I run it for a couple of minutes with the dump valve closed then open the dump valve to let the water drain out while the flush is still operating. This allows for a good gush of water to carry out any additional detritus and with the flush still operating as it drains hopefully keep anything from sticking to the sensors. You have 12 gallons of black tank so running the flush for a couple of minutes with the dump valve closed will not cause any problems. Just don't walk away and forget about it running!
@homerd I'm just curious what device you are using your SmartShunt to monitor? Usually it is used to monitor the trailer battery (all in/out currents) but that's not the way it looks wired here. (--at least from what I know so far, which isn't much yet, since I so far only have the SmartShunt and SmartSolar but don't have the Tab yet! I've only read the manuals and am keen to keep learning.) Normally, I think 1 muchlarger wire would go from the right-side -ve battery terminal to the right-side SmartShunt terminal bolt. All those other wires currently on the right-side -ve battery terminal would normally go instead to the left-side SmartShunt terminal bolt. That way everything would go through the SmartShunt and be measured, but here just 1 thing (via 1 white wire) is going through the SmartShunt and being measured. I'm just wondering what is the selected device that you are measuring, and how/why did you pick only that device? Thanks!
