If the Alde is actively heating, make sure no one is near the Safety/Drain valve outlet when you briefly pop (or press) the yellow valve. The water that exits is under pressure and very hot.
@Nanabirdie - there is a learning curve with the Alde. It will eventually make sense. Keep at it!
Speaking as an old Army physician here, I can advise that sanitizing the fresh tank with bleach as recommended will keep the water potable if you continue to refill from campground treated water sources. Of course in rural locations some campground water supplies may be suspect for contamination, and you might get GI upset or worse. Though that is unlikely, it only takes one time to learn the lesson. Then there is the issue of taste, which is quite variable from person to person. I personally note the "plastic" flavor of water in our fresh tank even when sanitized and flushed, and so I use a filter to improve the taste. Thus we find that we can drink from multiple sources and the water always tastes the same. Everyone has their own comfort level and risk tolerance.
@B11 The shunt and solar controller are usually installed before the battery cutoff switch, so using that wouldn’t help with any drain. That said, I don’t have onboard solar, do have a SmartShunt, and I have a smaller AGM battery capacity than your 400. It’s a total non issue. Battery drain from the SmartShunt with the battery switch turned to off is negligible. I installed the shunt in the middle of winter. Zero change in battery charge between January and April. None. It’ll overwinter just fine.
for a year or so, but if you plan to do a lot of boondocking it would probably be better to just bite the bullet and get a Victron SmartShunt (https://amzn.to/3KDbROV).
I use the black tank flush in the same manner as Denny16. I run it for a couple of minutes with the dump valve closed then open the dump valve to let the water drain out while the flush is still operating. This allows for a good gush of water to carry out any additional detritus and with the flush still operating as it drains hopefully keep anything from sticking to the sensors. You have 12 gallons of black tank so running the flush for a couple of minutes with the dump valve closed will not cause any problems. Just don't walk away and forget about it running!
